Candy Taste Test
This candy taste test 5 senses activity is a perfect cure for my son repeatedly asking for more Halloween candy the next day. We had a ton of fun experimenting with candy and trying out candy, that he felt totally satisfied with what he has had already.
Super easy to set up, you just need a few different fun size candy bars for this candy taste test. Snickers, Milky Way, and 3 Musketeers are all very similar looking when unwrapped. The Almond Joy I added looked a bit different, but I knew it would be a great addition for the 5 senses.
To make it an official candy taste test, I added a plastic knife to cut samples. I also created a checklist for each candy and the 5 senses.
I quickly made up a worksheet with sight, smell, touch, hear, and taste with boxes for each candy which I numbered 1-4. This allowed him to practice checking off as he went along and observing what he experienced with each of the senses.

Obviously the best part of the candy taste test was actually tasting the candy. However, it becomes a much more fun and simple science experiment when you add in checking out all the senses!

He also gave points to the chocolate he liked the most. Then he went through them all again and compared his top two choices to determine the overall winner. The winner here was the 3 Musketeers followed by the Snickers bar.

Which candy is your favorite? Have you ever thought about adding in the 5 senses? Ask your kids questions about the candy if they are having difficulty coming up with ideas on their own. Open ended questions like “describe the outside of the candy to me” or ” when you touch the filling, what does it feel like”? Encourage your kids to think like a scientist!
An over abundance of candy makes the perfect science activity and an opportunity to sneak in a few more pieces of candy for the kids {mom too!}.
