HALLOWEEN HAUNTED HOUSE

Nothing says homemade to me like food, so we decided on a homemade edible haunted house activity to share. Our graham cracker haunted house is perfectly simple and fun to do with kids and families and even in the classroom! I actually saw this nifty idea first hand in my son’s class.

This simple homemade candy haunted house is such a wonderful invitation for kids to create. We loved this imaginative process and all the great fine motor skills work that went along with it. Our simple to make edible haunted house activity is a perfect activity for this October!

EDIBLE HAUNTED HOUSE

INGREDIENTS:

  • Cardboard Milk Container {or similar style} The mini milk containers are perfect for larger groups or younger kids.
  • Graham Crackers { I chose chocolate for a spookier look}
  • Frosting {canned white frosting can be mixed with food coloring or make your own}
  • Black Cookie Decorating Frosting {optional}
  • Halloween Candy! {peeps, candy corn, candy pumpkins, sprinkles, or whatever you like}
  • Stiff Cardboard {cover with aluminum foil to make a base}
  • Bowls, Spoons, Plastic Knives {for mixing and spreading}

HOW TO MAKE A HOMEMADE HAUNTED HOUSE

STEP 1. Break apart the graham crackers as best you can. You will have to determine the best way the crackers fit on your size container.

STEP 2. Put your graham crackers together with lots of frosting.

The frosting is the glue, so a good thick frosting is best! Remember, lots of frosting fixes imperfections!

STEP 3. Use a serrated knife to make triangle pieces to finish off the top.

This is also a quick and easy way to make a gingerbread house for the holidays with kids!

Make sure to cover each inch of your haunted house with candy! We made it spooky with lots of peeps ghosts flying around the haunted house and peeps pumpkins hiding in the pumpkin patch.
