Do you know how many ways you can use your LEGO collection? There are tons and you can check them all out here. This time we used our flat LEGO pieces to create a LEGO snowy winter tree in the form of a mosaic. Art and engineering combined! Take this one on as a LEGO winter challenge.

Winter Theme LEGO Building Ideas

Let’s build! Get your kids using their LEGO collection in new ways! You know they have a ton of it, but what else can they do with all those bricks. My job is to give you simple ways you can encourage your kids to find cool ideas for LEGO.

Most of our LEGO building ideas use some of the most basic LEGO pieces. We have a decent size collection, but we aren’t master builders. Really I want to show you that you don’t have to be one either!

Basic brick builds are some of our favorites because it allows my young son to do more on his own and learn how pieces work with each other.

We have made a couple of these LEGO seasons trees now, an apple tree and a fall leaves tree, so of course we need to show you a winter LEGO tree! Sort out those white pieces, build a fun tree shape, and make a tree for each season!

We need to get started on our spring tree next. Winter has only just begun here, but I am already dreaming of the green leaves and the pink bugs returning to the bare branches outside of my windows.

What about where you live? Maybe you just dream of snow. Maybe your LEGO seasons winter tree will have a snowfall or maybe a snowstorm! Maybe your winter tree scene will have a light dusting on the ground or an epic snow pile!

Tips For Creating Your Mosaic

Here are some tips to help you or young builders create a beautiful winter tree mosaic:

  • Choose a Simple Tree Design: Opt for a simple tree design with a recognizable trunk and branches. A winter tree might have a bare appearance with snow-covered branches.
  • Select Appropriate Colors: Choose LEGO bricks in colors that represent winter, such as white, light blue, and shades of brown for the tree trunk. You can also include light gray for a snowy effect.
  • Use Contrasting Colors for Snow: Make the snow on the branches stand out by using a contrasting color like white or light blue against the darker branches. This creates a visually appealing winter contrast.
  • Experiment with Textures: Add texture to the tree trunk by using different brick patterns or incorporating slopes and curved bricks to create a more realistic appearance.
  • Create a Snowy Landscape: Extend the mosaic to include a snowy landscape at the base of the tree. Use white bricks to represent snow and consider adding small details like snowdrifts or footprints.

Once the winter tree mosaic is complete, put it on display in a prominent place to showcase your kids’ creativity. You could also incorporate it into a winter-themed LEGO scene.

Build A LEGO Winter Mosaic Tree

What is a mosaic? A mosaic is a picture {or pattern} created with small or tiny pieces. Usually hard materials, so here you will use LEGO pieces to make your LEGO winter tree mosaic! Learn more about mosaics here.

Supplies:

  • base plate
  • brown and white {and grey} flat pieces of different sizes. (Now you can easily use the regular bricks as well if you don’t have enough of the flats.)
  • 1×1 pieces in white for snow
