When the holidays come around, our first Christmas book to pull out is the Polar Express by Chris Vans Allsburg. Nothing better accompanies a family reading of this awesome Christmas story than a cup of hot cocoa. This year we had to make a tin foil Christmas ornament to go along with this classic Christmas story. Can you hear the bell ring? I still can. Although I know Santa isn’t real, his magic lives on in my heart, and I am excited to pass that magic along to my son.

TIN FOIL CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS

This polar express ornament craft is super easy to make and doesn’t require glue or paint, so it’s not messy either! Plus it’s super frugal if you are looking to keep your ornament making simple this year.

I can’t take to much credit for this tin foil Christmas ornament. My son came home with a version of it from a YMCA fun night with a Polar Express theme. My son asked to make a few more for the tree, so we dressed up ours with extra bells and ribbon.

HOW TO MAKE A TIN FOIL ORNAMENT

Step 1: Cut out a single egg cup from the egg carton {2} and cut out tin foil squares {2} to wrap around egg carton cups. 6-8 inches should do it.

Step 2: Wrap the cups. Place flat bottom of egg cup in the middle of the tin foil square. Fold the tin foil into the middle of the egg cup. If you keep the egg cup firmly down on the counter the top will stay smooth.

Step 3: Make a whole in the top and push a piece of ribbon through. The ribbon should be long enough to hold the two tin foil bells. However, you could certainly turn this tin foil bell ornament pair into a single bell!

Step 4: Tie on the bells. We have a big and small bell. Great fine motor work! Do the same with the other bell and you are finished. You now have a simple tin foil bell ornament!
