This year we are venturing into the world of DIY ornaments but sticking to ideas I know my son will enjoy. I wanted to keep it easy, fun, unique and inexpensive. I hope my ideas will give you ideas on how to use what you have to create new and inexpensive Christmas ornaments with your kids. Oh and I also snuck in some fine motor skills practice too!
CLEAR PLASTIC ORNAMENTS FOR CHRISTMAS CRAFTS
DIY PLASTIC ORNAMENTS FOR KIDS TO MAKE
Ornament #1: Buttons and Letters
For this easy ornament I used some poly bead fill (which I used later for a Christmas magnet sensory bin), mini buttons, sequins, beads and letter beads to spell MERRY CHRISTMAS. I called out each letter, and he found it! I also used a funnel to help load the poly bead fill.
Ornament #2: Feathers
I had a bag of feathers hanging around and thought it would look pretty to push some into a globe ornament. Quite a challenge but he worked hard at it!
Ornament #3: Snowflakes
This is more of a wintry themed ornament with sparkly blue and white pom pons, silver sequins snowflakes, and clear beads. The larger pom poms were quite a task to push into the small opening, but I knew with a little perseverance they would make it. Just the task Liam needs to work on his frustration tolerance! Very pretty and sparkly!

Ornament #4: Melting Snowman
This was completely not my idea but We Made That’s awesome creation! I used fake snow, 5 little black beads and an orange paper nose made out of card stock! Check out our easy recipe for fake snow.
Very simple to make and quick. Some good skills are used to get all the little pieces of snow into the globe along with the snowman parts!

Ornament #5: Colored Rice, Pipe Cleaners and Sparkly Pom Poms
I definitely didn’t know what I was going to pick for this easy ornament. This just goes to show you what you can do if you look around at what you have and go from there. I had a little colored rice from a sensory bin, cut up pipe cleaners from another bin and some extra pom poms!
See it came out pretty too and great for working on fine motor skills! I bet I could fill a dozen more of these ornaments if I had the time!
Here’s our easy instructions for how to make colored rice.
