Alphabet Knock Down!
Gross Motor Early Learning Fun!
I am always trying to find cool ways to make the alphabet fun! Gross motor, hands-on play is always a fantastic choice to get my son in on the fun and learning. He hasn’t had much fun with the alphabet lately so I have been trying out new ways to get him excited about letters (loves to count)! What better than to knock down block towers with alphabet bean bags. He is in heaven when he is knocking over big towers, the more unstable the better! This is definitely play with a purpose and he is so into it! Helpful Hint: No alphabet bean bags? Roll up socks and put a letter sticker on them!
Liam definitely prefers the big blocks much better than small wooden blocks. I am sure it has something about the largeness that incorporates gross motor play and whole body movement. He is always moving, wiggling, and jumping. These are awesome and made out of dense foam. Or we use the jumbo cardboard ones. I had him build it up as tall as he could and any way he wanted, then I gave him a container full of alphabet bean bags. The only requirement was to call out the letter he picked up. He did this over and over again until we used up all the letters and then some!
Love the action shot! He’s not much of a builder for the sake of building, but he is when it comes to making a demolition project! I have mostly given up on trying to build houses, castles, garages right now. So big towers to knock down it is! This was a win/win activity. He got to throw and jump and I got him to practice letter recognition. Lucky me I am sitting on a giant, comfy bean bag watching him. Lots of laughing going on here!
