The mall was crowded today. There were images of smiling mom’s everywhere with plenty of items set out especially for you to purchase for me. But I don’t want any of it. Instead we bought a batman poster for my son’s room.  We celebrate people with gifts. I can see it all. Is it because we have carved out so little time for family the rest of the year? Seriously, what I don’t want for mothers day is the best for everyone!

SERIOUSLY, WHAT I DON’T WANT FOR MOTHERS DAY

What I Don't Want For Mothers Day

LET’S GET REAL ABOUT MOTHER’S DAY

PLEASE DON’T:

I don’t need the hype. I don’t need the “because you feel like you have to’s”.  I Just need you.

Bring me flowers anyway because you were just thinking of me. Don’t bring me flowers on a day you are expected to.

There are probably a dozen other days during the year where I look like I have been to battle and lost, send me to the spa then.

I don’t need you to clean the house, do the laundry, make the beds, or fix breakfast today. I simply need everyone to chip in once in awhile the other 364 days of the year.

Forget brunch. You know the kiddo isn’t going to want to sit for it anyway and doesn’t even really like breakfast food other than bacon and how much bacon can we seriously let him eat at once.

PLEASE DO:

I want extra hugs, kisses, and smiles everyday because that’s what families are for.

I want to celebrate my day with you not without you. I don’t need everyone to disappear for the day.

I want to take an adventure with you.

I want to eat a great big ice cream and then maybe have a seconding just because.

I want to find new places to discover because you are my family, and we are in this together.

I want a quiet day without obligations to enjoy you.

LETS TEACH OUR KIDS THAT EVERY DAY IS A DAY TO CHERISH SOMEONE WE LOVE.

Show your kids that thoughtfulness happens every day of the year, and not just one specific day.

WHAT HAPPENED TO EVERY DAY?

I am still mom every day.

Give me your time, your compassion, your love, and your kindness every day without a Hallmark card to prove it.

When the flowers are buy one get one free, bring a bunch or two home. Even the sad looking ones.

Bring home my favorite cookies. Better yet, don’t bring them home just tell me you were going to but knew I didn’t want the extra sugar.

Write me a poem {or google one} when I have a fever but still have so much to do. I might give you a crazy look, but I will love you anyway.

Every day is kind of like Mother’s Day isn’t it? Including the good and not so good stuff that come’s with it.

NOT THIS TIME AROUND

The flowers, the jewelry, the brunch reservations, the massages, they can all wait. Today let’s spend it together doing the things we said we would do when we became parents. I don’t need a day away from it all, but I will take a day with it all!

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ME AND TO YOU
