Put together a simple engineering LEGO sensory bin for your budding engineer! We used our favorite LEGO pieces in a different way! We love to use LEGO for unique learning ideas! We also really enjoy sensory bins! Combine the two for a great play activity that encourages STEM!

ENGINEERING LEGO SENSORY BIN PLAY
We had fun last week with a LEGOÂ sensory bin for early learning math skills, so I thought I would continue the fun and learning this week with an engineering LEGO sensory bin activity. Â If you are a fan of Star Wars, our LEGO droid building sensory bin is fun too!
SUPPLIES:
LEGO Early Builder Set {any car pieces will do!}
Paper
Pencils
Sensory Filler {we also have non-food sensory bin filler ideas}
I traced each piece onto paper and set out his crayon pencils. I also assembled a vehicle and took a picture in case so we would have a visual to follow.
Then disassemble and mix the pieces into the sensory bin! You could also set this activity up as a LEGO invention bin, where you hide a variety of pieces and you build an invention. This bin can also include drawing, coloring, and designing as you go!
Having the checklist handy to know what and how many pieces he needed to find was definitely helpful and enjoyable for my son.

He’s not a big fan of coloring. However, as part of the engineering process it was a different story! Matching the shapes to the drawing was a great visual activity because what I traced did not necessarily look exactly like the piece! He had to use his critical thinking skills to match some of the objects to the shapes.
STEM is great for developing valuable life skills. Check out 10 awesome lessons STEM projects can teach kids.Â
Time to build! LEGO bricks definitely encourage those fine motor skills. Finger dexterity, hand eye coordination, and hand strength are all skills needed to build successfully with LEGO pieces. Not to mention there are several different finger grasps used which later helps with pencil holding!
 Not only did we incorporate sensory play, coloring, matching, and engineering into our LEGO sensory bin play, we also practiced tons of fine motor skills!Â
More than worksheets, sensory bins offer a rich learning experience while including necessary skills. This engineering LEGO sensory bin was so easy to make and share with my son. What can you do with your LEGO today?
