WATER BEADS SCIENCE AND SENSORY PLAY

This is a simple water beads science play invitation to explore and discover. There are so many simple discoveries kids can make when given a fun material and a few science tools to explore. Have you ever played with water beads or watch them grow? It’s a unique sensory play experience that provides simple learning activities too. Our easy water beads science play is perfect for hands-on learning. Water beads are also one of our favorite sensory bin fillers.

TO SET UP THE WATER BEADS SCIENCE ACTIVITY

For this water beads science activity, it is best to start with the tiny beads that need to be hydrated. Water beads are also sold already hydrated in containers.

Water Beads Science Activity

Hydrating the beads is the first part of our water beads science play experience. It’s perfect for kids to see what happens when you add water. Will the water beads absorb it all, some of it, or none?  Hydrate according to instructions.

Make sure to ask your kids what they think will happen to the water!

Water Beads Tactile Sensory Play

Get your hands in the bin for a cool tactile sensory experience.

Simple water beads science ideas include absorption, light, and color. Water beads are also a type of super absorbent hydro-gels because the amount of water they can hold. Maybe one day something similar to these little beads will have a big impact on the environment and water conservation.

Examining  Water Beads with Maginfying Glass

 

Make sure to use a magnifying glass with your water beads science play. Also be sure to squish them, squeeze them, and break them apart to see what happens. There are many ways to explore these water beads.

We used our test tube to grow some water beads and to examine them. For young kids, this water beads science play activity is a great way to spark curiosity and think of new ways to explore a new material. Water beads are definitely unique!

This water beads science play also presented the opportunity to explore light and color. He noticed the individual beads on the white paper gave off colors. We explored how the light from the window produced more or less color depending on how we moved them around. The water beads used the light from the window to reflect the colors.
