Fall Harvest Sensory BinĀ
Fine Motor Skills Sensory Play!
Fall harvest sensory bin play is great any day this season! We are still loving Fall sensory play here, and I wanted to continue our harvest theme right up through Thanksging. I admit I do love Christmas, but it is still very important that we continue to celebrate Fall and learn about Thanksgiving and the try meaning of this important holiday before heading into Winter and the Christmas holiday. I have been finding that our sensory play has been a great way for us to talk with one another about the meaning of thankfulness {Bear Says Thanks Sensory Play}, gratitude and the importance of harvest. This has lead to wonderful discussions of what people eat around the world and sadly, that some people around the world do not have enough to eat. A sensory bin may appear to be about dumping and filling but it can be so much more! Sensory bins are a very engaging tool for a young child. All About Sensory Bins: 5 Things You Should Know is a great resource as well as my Ā Tactile Sensory Play Guide. Create a simple Fall harvest sensory bin with easy items.

Fall Harvest Sensory Bin Play
We had a Fall party the other day for a few of Liam’s long time little friends. All ages 4-5. This one little girl was having an awesome time playing in our Fall harvest sensory bin, so I had to take some pictures {permission of parents always given!} I love how engaged she was with this simple sensory play idea for open- ended play
She loved using these dollar store salad tongs for finding items, transferring items and showing everyone what she had picked up. Trick: Use a rubber band to keep the salad tongs together. So much less frustration!
Simple fine motor playful learning with a sensory bin! What else could you do with this sensory bin? Count, count and more counting! Colors and sorting! Grab a favorite fall book about leaves or even our favorite Bear Says Thanks by Karma Wilson. Talk about Thanksgiving and the meaning of “give thanks”! I love how she is sharing her finds in this next photo which is a wonderful example of kindness and thinking of others!
