Our glowing slime really glows in the dark! Kids love glow in the dark activities and our homemade, easy to make, awesome slime recipe is perfect for this glow in the dark activity! Slime is science and slime is sensory play, two great things kids love and are so important for early childhood learning! We love hands-on activities that we can make ourselves!
GLOWING SLIME SENSORY PLAY
WHAT IS SLIME?
Is it a liquid or a solid? It stretches but then it breaks. It makes a ball and bounces. It feels slimy and wet, but it isn’t! These are some of the interesting observations my five year old made as we explored this slime recipe. Read a little more in depth here about polymers and chemistry. We aren’t quite there yet but sure had a lot of fun just the same! Get start sand make easy slime today!
This is a liquid starch slime. We have made several kinds this season including liquid starch and borax. These have been super easy, quick and fun to make! Please check out our LIQUID STARCH HOMEMADE SLIME RECIPE.
- Liquid starch
- Elmers Washable White Glue
- Glow in the dark paint (craft store)
- Bowls, spoon, cookie sheet (optional)
NOTES: Mix your ingredients as directed in the recipe above (click here) I added about a tablespoon of our inexpensive glow in the dark paint to the mixture once I poured the glue and water into the starch. At first it had a bit different feel on my hands and left a residue, but it gets much better over time and 30 mins later felt awesome! I store covered in the fridge at nigh time.
Glowing Slime Sensory Play In The Dark
It still amazes me how easy this glowing slime is to make and how cool it is to play with too! Usually I don’t get recipes right, so I would have to say it is pretty fool proof. Now to photograph the slime is a different story. I am keeping it real here with simple pictures from my iPhone 5! Not the greatest, but we didn’t have a backlight which would have yielded more professional shots. However, now you know you can take a picture of glowing slime with your phone in the dark!
Helpful Hint: Charge the glowing slime under direct light for a bit. You may have to recharge during play, but we found this to be part of the fun. Enjoy the glow! Squish, squeeze and manipulate the slime.
This glowing slime is a treat for the eyes and the hands and creates awesome sensory play for visual, tactile and proprioceptive stimulation. My son loves to squeeze and pull it using his muscles!
