Hands On Sensory Play & Practical Life Skills too!
Hands-On Play is the best! Children love to learn by doing, exploring, creating, discovering, and touching. Let them use their hands to soak in all the world has to offer. Enrich their lives with stimulating play that teaches, engages and encourages a love for life, play and learning. Give them a strong foundation to rise tall and strong with real, simple play!
Quick and Easy Sensory Tray! Our first!
I had never thought of a sensory tray for loads of fun sensory play! However, this cam about spontaneously and morphed into a fun sensory play activity at the kitchen counter while I made dinner! I am excited to make some more of these little trays. Quick and easy works for me. This one came about after we had finished our Kitchen Counter Science Activities! Our hands on play science took place right at the kitchen counter. Take a look at how easy those activities were too. I noticed he was having an awful lot of fun with the remains of our water displacement activity!
He had moved all the containers aside and dumped all the water out onto the cookie sheet. He was happily soaking up water with the sponge and squeezing it into the little pitcher and then dumping the pitcher back out. The gems and stones had spread around the tray. It looked like a pond. I mentioned the pond to him, and he immediately located a frog and a friend for the frog. The soaking, squeezing and pouring continued for quite awhile while I hung out with him, made some dinner and cleaned up a bit.Â
I think he really enjoyed himself! Not only is their tactile (touch, feel) sensory stimulation from the water play but also proprioceptive (muscle work, joint compressions) sensory work from squeezing the sponge! Tons of great, simple hands on play that also included practical life and fine motor skills!
A sensory tray at the kitchen counter might just do the trick to get the kitchen cleaned up!

Sensory tray – now there’s an idea I never thought of! My little one would probably have too much fun “accidentally” splashing water over the sides! lol! How great that he was able to play while you made dinner though! (It’s the little things…)
