The supplies needed are pretty simple and inexpensive. Of course you need Lego baseplates. I have a 10×10 blue baseplate here {and a few more he collected for me to put up!}. Our local hardware store sells a role of magnet strips with adhesive backing. I bought 10 feet which was more then enough, unless you want to cover your fridge, for $3.50. I wiped down the back of the base plate and cut a length of magnet for each side. I started with two to see if it was strong enough and it was! Plus we have a pebbled surface on the fridge which makes it harder to use magnets. This one was good and strong.
Magnet Strip Application Tips: The magnet strip was coiled up in the package. My husband found the adhesive worked best if you spent a bit of time bending the magnet the other way and straightening it out. When you apply the magnet, press down and hold it for a minute or weigh it down.
I also wanted to attach some storage options for the Lego board, so we could keep Lego neat and by the Lego board. I also applied a strip of magnet to these dollar store pencil holders. You can keep them vertical or move them horizontal. He could open the pouches and have them ready for building on the Lego board. The pouches are also easy to remove and hold.
Someones been pretty busy tonight. He could hardly wait to finish dinner.
If you want a more permanent LEGO board, super glue the magnetic strips to the baseplate!
