We are always looking for a new way to play with all of our homemade slime we have been making this year using our quick and easy slime recipe! It’s one of our 12 favorite sensory play recipes! This season we did make a melting snowman slime, but this time I wanted something thicker and stretchier!
What Is Slime?
Is it a liquid or a solid? It stretches but then it breaks. It makes a ball and bounces. It feels slimy and wet, but it isn’t! These are some of the interesting observations my five-year old made as we explored this slime recipe.
Read a little more in-depth here about polymers and chemistry. Slime is isn’t just a cool play idea, it’s a science lesson too.
LET’S MAKE SNOW DOUGH SLIME WITH OUR HOMEMADE RECIPE!
SNOW DOUGH SUPPLIES
{2} White washable glue (Elmers and store brand both work well for us!)
Liquid Starch
Water
Measuring Cup
2 bowls and a spoon
Arctic or Penguin Animals and Snowflakes {optional}
Winter Books {optional}
To Make Super Easy Snow Slime
In one bowl mix 1/2 cup water and 1 cup of glue.
In another bowl measure out 1/2 cup of liquid starch.
Slowly mix the glue/water mixture into the starch with a spoon and then switch to mixing with hands for a few minutes.
Drain any excess liquid and put in a clean, dry container or on a plate.
Slime gets better with time but can be used right away. Your hands and play help it along!
After about 20 minutes, I think it is just right and looks awesome! Check out Slime guide for more ideas!
Remember we are doubling the glue of our traditional recipe for this snow dough! If you take a look at the pictures of our original slime recipe you will see all the great pictures of the slime making process. Click on the black button below.
We also have an awesome fluffy, fake snow slime to try!
We stretched and shaped our dough. Although it is still a slime, it is much tougher and stretchier so it doesn’t ooze nearly as fast! Although you can still give it a melting snowman theme too!
Make it into a snow ball or an iceberg for your South Pole Penguins or your North Pole polar bears! We had a few penguins and arctic figurines from Toobs and a favorite book which talks about the North and South Poles, Ice is Nice!
We keep our snowy slime loosely covered on the kitchen table and play with it all week long! By then we are usually ready to make something new!
Make sure to check out all our awesome slime ideas! If you need something a little quicker you can always check out our snowflake winter oobleck.
We definitely think you will enjoy these great activities that really encourage hands-on learning, experimentation, and investigation. Slime may be a super cool activity to do with your kids, but they will also learn a lot from the experience too.
