MAKE A MOTHER’S DAY TANGRAM CARD
WHAT IS A TANGRAM?
A tangram is a re-arrangement puzzle made from a square cut into seven pieces. These flat geometric shapes are called tans.
Tangrams were invented in China over 200 years ago, before being introduced to Europe around 1891.
Each tangram puzzle contains the following 7 shapes:
- 2 large right triangles
- 1 medium-sized right triangle
- 2 small right triangles
- 1 small square
- 1 parallelogram
There are many ways to play with tangrams. The simplest way is to let kids create their own unique shapes. But really, tangrams are meant to be a puzzle.
The object of the puzzle is to make re-create a design you are given using all seven pieces without any overlap. Traditionally, you are not given any information about where each piece goes and it is up to you to figure it out.
Tangrams are great for helping kids develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as shape recognition and spatial skills.
