What do you do with a not-so-normal 6 a.m. wake-up up and you have done just about everything else you can think of, have had way too much coffee, and are out of ideas? You make an animal wash water sensory play bin to go along with one of your favorite books! Well, at least that is what we do! Around here we love all sorts of quick and easy sensory play recipes.
Animal Wash Water Sensory Play
‘Twas the Day Before Zoo Day by Catherine Ipcizade is a book we purchased last summer on vacation and has become a favorite all year long. It prompted a fun family trip to the Bronx Zoo, too! Our favorite part of the book is the wash down the animals get before the opening zoo day. What better than to create our own wash with soapy bubbles?

Animal Wash Water Sensory Bin Easy Set Up And Play
Grab your supplies! A large bin for play, sponges, animals, and of course, soap! He mixed our bubbles with a wire whisk for a bit of added sensory work! Once we had a frothy mix of suds, we tossed in the animals and sponges.

Liam usually needs a bit of direction and purpose to his play. I suggested he wash and scrub each animal with both types of sponges. Note he doesn’t like super bubbles so we keep it light on the bubbles, but you can whip up a vast frothy load if your child enjoys lots of bubbles!
Why not take it into the bathtub for less mess?
Taking the time to scrub each individual animal was a good task for Liam and I heard him talking about his zoo book with the animals as he went along.
Of course, the animals needed to be rinsed, so I set out a plastic tub of fresh water and a towel for them to dry off on too!
