WHAT IS POP ART?

Pop Art is an art movement that began in the mid to late 1950’s. It is all about making art with reference to things from popular and mass culture. Often everyday objects like road signs, hamburgers, comic strips, or soup cans etc. are used in the artwork.

Roy Lichtenstein, Yayoi Kusama and Andy Warhol are some of the most influential artists of the Pop Art movement.

ANDY WARHOL

Andy Warhol was an American born artist, director, and producer who was best known for his Pop Art. He also became a fashion and style icon in the art world, known for his fanciful hair styles and interesting clothing.

Warhol used several techniques such as silkscreens, and often painted with bright colorsโ€”whether he painted celebrities, everyday objects, or images from daily life.

Warhol made a lot of money from his paintings but he is also credited with bringing art to the masses. He would mass-produce prints of his art so it was affordable to everyone.

This fun Easter art activity below is inspired by Andy Warhol’s Pop Art and his use of colorful repeating patterns.
