THE HISTORY OF FATHER’S DAY

America’s first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in the state of Washington. At that time, interestingly, Mother’s Day had already been an official day honoring mothers for 58 years!

A woman named Sonora Smart Dodd, created the first Father’s Day in Spokane, Washington. Her mother died when she was a child, and her father raised her and her five brothers and sisters by himself! She wanted to honor her father the same way mother’s were honored. She went to local churches, the YMCA, shopkeepers and government officials to drum up support for her idea, and she was successful!

Honor your Dad this Father’s Day with a fun homemade pop up card. Let’s get started!
