This is probably one of the silliest activities we have done in awhile, but it turned out to be fun! I love saving cardboard for anytime STEM projects. Since it’s around Thanksgiving time, I figured we could try out a little engineering activity with a cardboard turkey Thanksgiving STEM challenge.
We usually keep cardboard for building with. It’s super easy to make cardboard building pieces. Check out how we made them here. You can make any shape really. You can see some different shapes below. They are great to store in a zip top bag for a busy bag or quiet time activity.

Our cardboard turkey STEM challenge started out with a circular piece of cardboard he found in our “STEM bin”. Which is a large rubber tote I toss cool items into instead of the trash. We like STEM on a budget. Then we cut triangular pieces that looked like feathers.

A silly face for a silly project! Engineering with cardboard is perfect for little hands and so easy to do anytime. Fitting the pieces together is great fine motor work, but he needed some help cutting the cardboard pieces he wanted. You can encourage your kids to design their cardboard any way they want.

A fun Thanksgiving STEM challenge creating a cardboard turkey that is quick and easy to set up. Plus it opens up the possibility of making so many more structures and sculptures. Should keep the kids busy for quite awhile! Makes a great stuck inside activity too.
