Fun Turkey In Disguise Ideas

Thanksgiving isn’t complete until you’ve read Turkey Trouble by Wendy Silvano and Lee Harper. It’s a great starting point for introducing the idea of a turkey in disguise project.

This Thanksgiving craft for kids makes a great tradition to do year after year especially for our kindergarten and 1st graders!

This activity not only encourages creativity but can also be a great way for kids to practice storytelling, critical thinking, and artistic skills.

Plus, it’s a lighthearted way to celebrate Thanksgiving and emphasize the importance of gratitude and empathy toward all living creatures, even those that might end up on the dinner table in traditional Thanksgiving feasts.

Grab the free turkey in disguise printable below, and some colored markers for a fun and easy Thanksgiving activity.

Of course, we also have fun with Thanksgiving slime, Thanksgiving STEM activities and loads more Thanksgiving art and craft activities!

Tips For A Turkey In Disguise Project

The goal is to have kids use their creativity to disguise a turkey, making it look like something other than a turkey to save it from becoming Thanksgiving dinner. It’s a fun and imaginative way to engage kids in arts and crafts while celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday.

You want to hand out a picture or cutout of a turkey and get kids to decorate it in a way that transforms it into something else entirely. The possibilities are limited only by the imagination!

TIP 1: Provide a Variety of Craft Supplies

Offer various craft supplies such as colored paper, markers, stickers, fabric scraps, googly eyes, feathers, and more. A diverse selection of materials will help kids bring their turkey disguises to life and add depth to their projects.

TIP 2: Explain the Concept and Tell a Story

Discuss the concept of the project with the children and explain that the goal is to save the turkey from becoming Thanksgiving dinner by giving it a creative disguise. Encourage them to think about the backstory of their turkey’s disguise. Why did the turkey choose this particular disguise, and what adventures does it go on while in costume?

TIP 3: Display and Share

Once the turkey disguises are complete, consider displaying them creatively and festively. This could be on a bulletin board or as part of a Thanksgiving decoration. Encourage children to share their turkey in disguise projects with their classmates, friends, or family, along with the stories they’ve created for their disguised turkeys.
