HOW TO MAKE A PAPER TURKEY

Fun paper turkey craft that explores textures

PAPER TURKEYS

Our Paper Turkey Craft is a fun example of rubbings, one of the earliest forms of print making. By rubbing a soft pencil or oil pastels over a surface and reproducing the raised elements of that surface, you are making a print of it.

Our Thanksgiving activities are designed with you, the parent or teacher, in mind!  Easy to set up, quick to do, most activities will take only 15 to 30 minutes to complete and are heaps of fun!  Plus, our supplies lists usually contain only free or cheap materials you can source from home.

HOW TO MAKE A PAPER TURKEY

STEP 1. Print the turkey craft template (see above).

STEP 2. Find textures you want to use for the rubbing. Firmer textures work better than soft textures.

STEP 3. Place the feathers on the printed turkey template over the object, and use an oil pastel to rub the paper over the item. It will create a textured pattern as you color the feathers.

STEP 4. Optional – use a different color and texture for each turkey feather.

STEP 5. Color the body of the turkey with markers.

STEP 6. Cut out all the pieces of the turkey and glue them onto a colored background.
