Fizzy Space Art Project (Younger Kids)

Young kids, including preschoolers, will love the fizzy chemical reaction between baking soda and vinegar. It’s a fantastic way to incorporate science and process art with a hands-on project.

Supply List:

• Vinegar
• Baking Soda
• Paper
• Deep Tray
• Droppers
• Small Cups
• Food Coloring (choose your favorite colors)
• Paint (optional)
• Paintbrush (optional)

Instructions:

STEP 1. Fill three small cups halfway with vinegar and add 3-5 drops of food coloring to each cup. Mix well.

STEP 2. Cover the bottom of a deep tray with about 1/8 to 1/4 inches of baking soda.

STEP 3. Use droppers to add the colored vinegar to the baking soda in the tray.

TIP: Slightly oversaturate the baking soda with the vinegar to create a vibrant, fizzy reaction.

STEP 4. Make your print by placing a piece of paper onto the fizzy mixture. Press it down, and move it around to create unique patterns.

TIP: Allow the paper to sit on the baking soda and vinegar mixture for at least 30 seconds.

STEP 5. Peel the paper off and let it dry completely.

Optional! Once dry, use paint and a paintbrush to add stars and other celestial details to your galaxy.

Space Process Art

This space art project with fizzy reactions and galaxy themes is an excellent example of process art to explore with kids. Unlike traditional art, where the end result is planned, this activity focuses on the creative process.
