Board Game Collections

Throughout this year, I will be adding more board game collections to the list. As a family, we love board games, especially ones that are slightly different. I also like to pick games that adults will enjoy just as much as young kids.

Best Halloween Board Games

I am happy to say that we’ve tried all of these at one time or another except a couple I plan to pick up this season, including the Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne variations. Plus, we are eager to try Mansion of Madness with our son, who is now 14.

Age Suggestions: You know your kids best, so take the age recommendations for their worth. You will find games to fit most ages below, Kindergarten through teenager. Plus, I find that adults also enjoy these games.

Cauldron Quest (Peaceable Kingdom, 5+)

This cooperative board game is where players work together to beat the wizard. Kids can cast spells and trade potions to undo the spell placed by the wizard.

Ghost in the Attic (Peaceable Kingdom)

“Don’t Let the Ghost Escape: While exploring a haunted mansion, two kids and their dog accidentally awakened a ghost living in the attic! Players must work together to keep the ghost from escaping the manor…and haunting the rest of the neighborhood.” It’s glow-in-the-dark too!

Shadows (Thinkfun)

Like flashlight tag but in a board game! One player has the lantern and is searching for shadowlings. The other players work together to keep the shadowlings out of the light! Play this game in the dark!

Ticket to Ride: Ghost Train

What are you waiting for if you’ve never played Ticket to Ride? This Halloween-themed edition is perfect for all Ticket to Ride fans.

Goosebumps

This board game is based on the books, and the movie features different characters! You’ll race around the board battling monsters and manuscripts—highly replayable game fun for kids and adults!

Hocus Pocus (Ravensburger)

Of course, you must have a Hocus Pocus themed game to accompany the two movies! This a cooperative game where payers work together to save the town of Salem from the Sanderson sisters.

Zombie Kittens

If you love the fun, fast play of Exploding Kittens, the Halloween version is a must with the un-dead, zombie theme!

Taco Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza (Halloween Theme)

Another quick and fun card game with a Halloween theme (there’s a Christmas theme too)!

Disney Haunted Mansion

The movie is a Halloween classic must-see, and now you can add the board game to the night, too!

Mist Over Carcassonne

Carcassonne is a timeless game known as a gateway game for more complex board games. This is a tile-laying game that everyone can enjoy. (Start with My First Carcassonne for very young kids.) This version adds a fun theme for the spooky season.

Disney Villainous (Ravensburger 10+)

This is certainly fun if you are a Disney fan, but it is also a great strategy game for anyone. Plus, there are many expansion sets to add more characters if your kids are hooked on Disney.

Note: The next group of games will be more complex and while there may be a steeper learning curve, once you get the basics, they will be a blast.

Mysterium (10+)

Up for a spooky mystery? Try Mysterium for cooperative gameplay. One player is the ghost, and the others work together as psychics to learn what happened. There are some Clue vibes, but it is also quite different. I’ve recently noticed a Mysterium Kids 6+ version, but we are past that age range.

Horrified (10+)

Horrified is a cooperative game where players work together to protect the town from classic monsters like Dracula and Frankenstein!

Betrayal at House on the Hill (12+)

No game is ever the same, and since you build the house each time, every scenario is different. The instructions can be intimidating, but this game easily lasts into adulthood!

One Night Ultimate Werewolf (14+)

It’s a fun and fast-paced card game once you get the hang of it! Who’s the werewolf?

Mansion of Madness (14+)

It’s probably the most advanced and expensive of all the games, but teens and adults love it! Again, this is a cooperative mystery game with horror thrown in. Note: This game does require the use of an APP to play the board game.

No matter your kid’s age or gaming experience, these Halloween board games promise hours of laughter, excitement, and wholesome entertainment. Gather your little (or big) goblins and ghosts and embark on a spooktacular journey through Halloween board games for kids of all ages.
