St Patrick’s Day Magic Cube Puzzle (Free Printable)

I am super excited to share this neat St Patricks Day Magic Cube Puzzle with you this week. It’s perfect to add to our St Patricks Day STEM countdown happening the first 17 days of March! You will find the free printable and step by step instructions below to make your very own lucky magic cube with your own little leprechauns. We make sure to keep STEM fun!

What is a Magic Cube?

A “Magic Cube” you can make is typically an interactive or folding paper craft that transforms as you manipulate it. One popular version is called the Infinity Cube, which consists of several small cubes linked together so that you can fold and unfold them infinitely.

These cubes are often made from paper or cardboard (wood blocks here) and can be a fun, hands-on activity that combines geometry and creativity.

ST PATRICK’S DAY MAGIC CUBE SUPPLIES

• Wooden Blocks: 1″ or 1.5″ (printable included for both sizes, check craft stores or see amazon commission links just below! Also see a fun book recommendation!)
• Clear Tape
• Glue Stick
• Pencil
• Scissors
• Printable Sheets (find download down below)

MAGIC CUBE PUZZLE INSTRUCTIONS!

Use the photos below to help guide the process. Start by placing a piece of tape across two blocks as shown below. Write a #1 on the tape to label this as hinge #1.

NOTE: It’s very important to read the note in the picture below! For each one of these steps to make your magic cube, you will need to reinforce your “hinge” by placing a piece of tape on the back and front.

You will want to create hinge #2 by attaching a block to the top of one of the blocks marked with a #1 as shown directly below. Label that with a #2. Remember to open the hinge all the way to reinforce it!

Now repeat the step with a new hinge on the top of the other #1 block and label that as #3! Again, remember to reinforce the hinge on the other side. See the pictures below for these steps.

Next repeat the steps with another set of 4 blocks labeling them #4, #5, and #6. Always reinforce those hinges!

Place the two bundles of blocks together as shown below.

You will then create hinge #7 by placing a piece of tape across blocks #3 and #5 as seen in the middle photo below. Don’t forget to reinforce the hinge on the other side.

Move on to create hinge #8 by placing a piece of tape across blocks #2 and #6 and of course don’t forget to reinforce the hinge on the other side.

Go ahead and test out your blank magic cube puzzle now and see how it works. Make sure all hinges are reinforced!

DECORATING YOUR ST PATRICKS DAY MAGIC CUBE PUZZLE

Time to print out the right size graphics you need depending on the size blocks you have chosen to use. You will need a total of 12 images. Cut the pictures in half.

FOR THE SIDES WITH TAPE: You will now glue the halves to the blocks that have tapes on them.

FOR THE SIDES WITHOUT TAPE: You will need to cut those graphics into quarters and glue on each piece separately.
