Simple summertime crafts can’t be beaten when you need a break from the heat! Plus, this sun craft is fun to do with kiddos of all ages and easy enough to do with large groups too. If you have crafty kids or you need a grab and go activity, our summer handprint art activities are perfect. Paper, paint, and a little creativity are all you need to get started!

Handprint Sun Craft

You will need:
- 1 Paper plate (per project)
- Yellow tempera paint
- Paintbrush
- Glue
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Yellow, orange, and green construction paper
- 2 Jumbo googly eyes (optional)
- Markers
Instructions:
STEP 1. Paint the paper plate with yellow paint.

STEP 2. Trace your child’s hand on paper. Cut the handprint from paper. Use the handprint as a template to cut additional hands to be the sun rays.
Tip: For younger kids, you may want to cut out a handful of hands prior to the activity. Extend the activity with older kiddos by having them cut out their own handprints.

STEP 3. Attach the handprints around the edge of the paper plate with glue.

STEP 4. Next attach the googly eyes and chenille stem (mouth) with glue to the middle of the paper plate. Alternatively, draw a smiley face in the center of your sun.

STEP 5. Glue or tape the paper plate to a Popsicle stick if desired. Then allow the craft to dry completely before playing or displaying.
