BUILDING TOY #1: WEDGITS

Wedgits are fun to build with and easy to manipulate for younger children. However, you can make really neat sculptures with increasingly difficult skills for older kids. Lots of ideas to work from too and try to recreate!

BUILDING TOY # 2: QUERCETTI TUBATION

Quercetti Tubation is also great for the younger preschooler to manipulate without frustration but equally entertaining for the older preschooler.

We also added a set of music pieces that can be combined with the tubes to make flutes and horns.

BUILDING TOY #3: Foam Blocks

Foam blocks are a great buy and have provided hours of fun for my son! Inexpensive and a great variety, they are large and great for building castles on the floor (not table top size).

BUILDING TOY #4: MELISSA AND DOUG BLOCKS

Everyone needs a set of these cardboard building blocks from toddler on up! We have played with these for years. Hands down great buy and very durable.

You do have to assemble them all, but I am a pro now and have done boxes for other people! Slightly tough to store but we keep them in a big clear storage bin!

BUILDING TOY #5: DUPLO

Duplos are a great independent building toy now! My son likes the Duplo building sets better than just a big tub of duplos, so we often keep pieces separate. We have a quarry set and this is actually a gift for him this year to add to it.

Although he can manipulate the smaller Lego pieces well now, he would rather use these still for independent play. We are definitely encouraging independent play too!

BUILDING TOY #6: LEGO

That leads us to this lego building toy. This is for slightly older kids. We have several versions including a 4 and up one too.

He will sit with Daddy at the table and they have loads of fun building them together. We keep all the pieces in the separate containers and it makes a nice little table activity for quality son/daddy time!

BUILDING TOY #7: SMARTMAX POWER VEHICLES

Mix and Match and create your own vehicles with minimum frustration! Lots of fun parts and magnetic balls and rods! Pair it with the set below for even more fun but also great as a stand alone gift.

My son received this for his birthday this year. He is easy to frustrate but it is quickly getting the hang of snapping the pieces together.

BUILDING TOY #8: SMARTMAX BUILDING SET

SmartMax basic building set. Although pricey, it is a great preschool building toy and would be a great compliment to the power vehicles above. Since my son has the vehicles and enjoys them, we went ahead and bought this for under the tree too!

BUILDING TOY #9: MELISSA AND DOUG WOODEN BLOCKS

Classic wooden blocks by Melissa and Doug. Heirloom quality and great to add to other sets. We have made many cities, zoos, castles, play grounds and more with these blocks!

BUILDING TOY #10: K’NEX

K’nex building kits offer lots of creativity with set building ideas too! Some building toys start at 3 years and continue past 9 years! Great for fine motor skills work too!
