Who Is Piet Mondrian?

Piet Mondrian was a Dutch artist best known for his abstract paintings. Abstract art does not show recognizable objects such as people, objects, or landscapes. Instead, artists use colors, shapes, and textures to achieve their effect.

Although he is best known for his abstract paintings made from squares and rectangles, Piet Mondrian started out painting realistic scenes. He especially liked painting trees.

Mondrian’s influence can be seen in many other things, from furniture to fashion. Mondrian is celebrated as the founder of De Stijl, a Dutch art movement of artists and architects.

How To Make A Mondrian Puzzle

Optional: Once the kids have their bricks, set a time limit for them to complete their Mondrian art puzzle. Depending on their age, it could take 5 or 10 minutes.

STEP 1: Print the puzzle template.

STEP 2: Place LEGO inside each shape in any pattern you choose. Mondrian typically used primary colors but you can use any colors you like!

Create your puzzle art and then choose different blocks to make another one!

Why Do Art With Kids?

Children are naturally curious. They observe, explore, and imitate, trying to figure out how things work and how to control themselves and their environments. This freedom of exploration helps children form connections in their brain, it helps them learn—and it’s also fun!

Art is a natural activity to support this essential interaction with the world. Kids need the freedom to explore and experiment creatively.

Art projects allow children to practice a wide range of skills that are useful not only for life but also for learning. These include the aesthetic, scientific, interpersonal, and practical interactions that can be discovered through the senses, intellect, and emotions.

Making and appreciating art involves emotional and mental faculties!

Art, whether making it, learning about it, or simply looking at it – offers a wide range of important experiences. In other words, it’s good for them!
