Who Was Kenojuak Ashevak?
Kenojuak Ashevak was one of Canada’s most famous graphic artists. She belonged to a group of Indigenous people known as the Inuit. Ashevak spent her life in an Arctic village in northern Canada and was even born in an igloo!

Her artwork was inspired by her surroundings, specifically animals in nature. She would draw her images and then they were carved in soapstone, and prints were made and sold in Canada and the United States.
In the late 1960s, Ashevak quickly gained recognition for her prints and become one of the most renowned Inuit artists in the world.
Throughout her career, the owl was a source of inspiration. Ashevak created over 100 different prints of owls, usually using a wide range of bright colors. Each of these prints would have an interesting title too.

Owl Art Project
You will need:
- Owl printable (see below)
- Colored paper
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Toothpick
- White paint
Instructions:
STEP 1: Print the owl template.

STEP 2: Cut each piece out of colored paper, using the template as a guide.
Make sure to keep the original owl face template cut out to use later on.

STEP 3: Glue the owl body onto a large piece of colored paper.

STEP 4: Use white paint and a toothpick to add polka dots to the body of the owl.

STEP 5: Add the owl face.

STEP 6: Glue rest of the owl pieces around the painted body.
