We have really been into white or ghost pumpkins this year! I think they are so pretty and a little different from the traditional orange pumpkins! Here we enjoy pumpkin STEM activities all season long. Check out this cool Pumpkin Geoboard for a great Fall STEM activity.
PUMPKIN GEOBOARD AND FALL STEM ACTIVITY
Last year I saw this fun pumpkin geoboard activity from Fun-A-Day and knew I had to keep it in mind for this season. Hers is a bit different so please do check it out! We kept it simple with loom bands and small finishing nails. The white pumpkin makes it a little different and very cool looking when finished!
Have fun with all our Pumpkin Activities for Kids
SUPPLIES
White {or orange} pumpkin
finishing nails
loom bands
small hammer {optional}.
Loom bands are perfect for fine motor skills and great for a small pumpkin. They stretch great. You can find them at your local craft store for $1. They worked perfectly for our pumpkin geoboard. Plus they can be reused.
Your kids can use a small hammer if appropriate. We found you can stick the nails in easily too. Either way, your kids have the perfect opportunity to work on fine motor and practical life skills with this pumpkin geoboard.
YOU CAN ALSO: Turn this pumpkin into a White Pumpkin Eruption Activity when you are done with the geo board.
At first we made shapes on our pumpkin geo board like squares, triangles, rectangles, diamonds, and more. Hands-on math with fine motor skills! As the pumpkin geoboard filled in with loom bands, the designs looked so cool.
There are tons of fun ways to make geoboards. Try our geo board styrofoam idea.
You can always add more nails and more bands. at one point he tried to count all the triangles he made. There were tons on our pumpkin geoboard.
YOU CAN ALSO MAKE: Halloween Tangrams Math Activity
We used orange, green, purple, and black loom bands on our pumpkin geoboard but go of any color.
Loom bands also make cool sensory bottles like our TMNT bottles or Minion Bottles!
This is an awesome, creative STEM activity that gets kids thinking! Shapes, patterns, and colors. Engineering and building skills with hammers and nails are a fun component for older kids. Younger kids will just love putting the bands on the nails.
Have you seen our DIY Wooden Geo Board?
Such a simple hands-on math activity with loads of play time. This will keep everyone busy.

February 12, 2017 at 12:07 pmAs in rotting? You can salvage the nails and bands when you are finished with the project and then you can let it rot and observe the changes that take place. Pumpkin Jack is a great book for kids on this subject. Plant your pumpkin and see what happens.

November 5, 2017 at 10:54 pmWe loved the Geo-board – thanks for the terrific idea! The white pumpkin looks real cool. My daughter loved the slime idea too. I would never have thought of using starch in such an interesting way. We tried a pumpkin activity and it worked out quite well, but we did it out in the garden by our front door. http://www.jumpstart.com/common/tower-of-pumpkins-view. Also we drove the stake straight into the soil. Again thanks, for all the ideas – love your website!
