Here, we enjoy pumpkin STEM activities all season long. Check out this cool Pumpkin Geoboard for a hands-on Math activity this October.

How To Make A Pumpkin Geoboard
If appropriate, your kids can use a small hammer. You can stick the nails in quickly, too. Either way, this pumpkin geoboard gives your kids the perfect opportunity to work on fine motor skills and add some pumpkin math.
💡 Note: If you prefer a traditional geoboard, take a look at our homemade geoboard project.
Materials Needed:
- White or orange pumpkin
- finishing nails
- loom bands or small rubberbands
- small hammer (optional)

Pumpkin Geoboard Instructions:
STEP 1. Add small nails to your pumpkin evenly spaced apart.
STEP 2. Then, add bands to create various shapes and patterns.

💡Make shapes on our pumpkin geoboard, such as squares, triangles, rectangles, diamonds, and more. This was hands-on math with fine motor skills! Check out 25 engaging shape activities for kids.

Geoboards for STEM Learning
Using a pumpkin geoboard is a hands-on way to introduce STEM concepts to kids. By stretching rubber bands around the pumpkin’s surface, kids explore geometry as they create different shapes and patterns.
This activity also encourages problem-solving and fine motor skills as kids experiment with angles and tension to form their designs. Plus, it’s a fun, seasonal twist on traditional geoboard learning!

These lessons are fabulous! My students LOVED the pumpkin volcano.
What happens when the pumpkin goes off?
As in rotting? You can salvage the nails and bands when you are finished with the project and then you can let it rot and observe the changes that take place. Pumpkin Jack is a great book for kids on this subject. Plant your pumpkin and see what happens.
Did you have a problem with the nails sliding out?
No we did not!
We loved the Geo-board – thanks for the terrific idea! The white pumpkin looks real cool. My daughter loved the slime idea too. I would never have thought of using starch in such an interesting way. We tried a pumpkin activity and it worked out quite well, but we did it out in the garden by our front door. http://www.jumpstart.com/common/tower-of-pumpkins-view. Also we drove the stake straight into the soil. Again thanks, for all the ideas – love your website!
