SPIDER ICE MELT SET UP

I prepped these the night before and made two batches. I pushed a plastic spider into the tray. Next, I  filled it with water! For one batch, I tinted the water orange with food coloring. Once frozen, pop out the ice cubes and place them in a container! Finally, add a bowl of warm water and fill a squirt bottle if desired!

SPIDER ICE MELT SCIENCE PLAY

He thought this was so cool and couldn’t wait to get started! He spent a good amount of time working on the icy spider webs and freeing the spiders. We added a little bowl of salt to enhance our ice melt science play. This component is not an exact science as the surrounding temperature is not cold, but it is a fun idea to work in and talk about, too.

Using eyedroppers, basters and squeeze bottles is also excellent for fine motor skills practice. Take a look at those little fingers working hard. You can also add plastic spiders to a sensory bin with a pair of tweezers to work on fine motor skills. In addition, pouring is a great skill to practice! He decided it was easier to hold the spiders and melt them!
