Chemistry is a little bit like magic in the eyes of our young scientists! Leprechauns, pots of golds, rainbows, and shamrocks all have a magical feel too. Let’s treat our budding scientists to a fun assortment of easy to set up St Patricks Day chemistry experiments that are perfect for simple and homemade science and STEM activities.

ST PATRICKS DAY CHEMISTRY EXPERIMENTS FOR KIDS!

The best St Patricks Day chemistry experiments for St Patricks Day science activities. Make homemade slime recipes, explore chemical reactions, grow crystals, examine dissolving candy and more! Fun St Patricks Day activities for the whole family to enjoy.

We are getting more into talking about the different kinds of sciences these days instead of just calling all our activities “science activities”. The more we do together, the more we learn and grow and it’s been easier adding in more ideas that define chemistry or physics. Plus, we know some experiments are a bit of both too!

I thought this was a great opportunity to take a look at the St Patricks Day chemistry experiments and activities we have tried over the years and put them all together for you!

Now you will have one resource for all things St Patricks theme chemistry!

WHAT IS CHEMISTRY?

Let’s keep it basic for our younger or junior scientists! Chemistry is all about the way different materials are put together, and how they are made up including atoms and molecules. It’s also how these materials act under different conditions. Chemistry is often a base for physics so you will see overlap!

What might you experiment with in chemistry? Classically we think of a mad scientist and lots of bubbling beakers, and yes there is a reaction between bases and acids to enjoy! Also, chemistry involves matter, changes, solutions, and the list goes on and on.

We will be exploring simple chemistry you can do at home or in the classroom that isn’t too crazy, but is still lots of fun for kids! You can check out some more chemistry activities here.

WHY ARE HOLIDAY SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS SO MUCH FUN?

You probably wonder why you see so many holiday or special occasion theme activities out there, including science and STEM. Well, the simple fact is that kids love the novelty of different holidays. Adults do too I have found!

FIND ALL OUR HOLIDAY SCIENCE AND STEM COLLECTIONS HERE

Each holiday comes with its own set of characteristics that make it unique and something to look forward to. Switching up basic science experiments and activities with holiday colors and theme items is an amazing way to practice and learn new things with the same concepts.

Here’s a good example. You can make a regular baking soda and vinegar eruption anytime. However, for St Patricks Day chemistry experiments you can try it in a rainbow of colors and even in little black pots.

Now you get to practice chemical reactions but in a new way that will get the kids excited all over again. Each time you repeat a science concept, there will be something new to learn and see! Sometimes all it takes is a little food coloring to change the theme!

Keep your eye out at the dollar store for fun but reusable items that can easily change up your science experiments. Have you seen all our St Patricks Day theme slimes, we are masters at this concept.
