Glue Ornament Science

This Glue Art Ornament activity incorporates several fascinating scientific concepts. The interaction between glue, food coloring, and dish soap highlights the principles of surface tension and the immiscibility of liquids.

When the toothpick drags the dish soap through the food coloring, it disrupts the surface tension, creating intricate and colorful designs. This process demonstrates how soap molecules break the cohesion of molecules on the surface of the liquid.

Additionally, the drying process of the glue showcases a change in the state of matter as water evaporates from the glue, leaving behind a solid ornament.

The activity also introduces basic color theory, as mixing food coloring allows for exploring primary and secondary colors and how they combine to form new hues. These elements make the project a creative and educational way to explore science and art.
