And his heart grew three sizes that day… Make awesome Grinch slime to go along with the book or movie this season. The Grinch has such a wonderful message for kids and families all year round. Kids will love this fun lime green Christmas slime or Grinch Day activity!
Grinch Slime Recipe
If you don’t want to use saline solution as per this recipe, you can absolutely test out one of our other basic recipes using liquid starch or borax powder. We have tested all three recipes with equal success!
Supplies:
- 1/2 cup of PVA Clear School Glue per slime batch
- 1/2 tsp baking soda per slime batch
- 1/2 cup water
- Green Food Coloring, Glitter, Confetti Hearts
- 1 tbsp of Saline Solution per slime batch
Instructions:
STEP 1. Add your glue and water to a bowl and mix well.
STEP 2. Mix in food coloring and red confetti hearts as desired!

💡 SLIME TIP: For a Grinchy-green slime color, you can use the neon green food coloring. Or try a couple drops of yellow with a drop of green. Make sure to not make the slime too dark in color so you can really see your hearts!

STEP 3. Add in your slime activator (baking soda and saline solution) to complete the chemical reaction you read about above. Mix well. You will notice the slime start to thicken and pull away from the edges of the bowl.
If your slime still feels too sticky, you may need a few more drops of saline solution. Start by squirting a few drops of the solution onto your hands and kneading your slime longer. You can always add but you can’t take away! Saline solution is preferred over contact solution.
What does the baking soda do? It adds the firmness the mixture needs so you can pick it up. This ingredient is a great variable to tinker with for a slime science experiment!

SLIME TIP: We always recommend kneading your slime well after mixing. Kneading the slime really helps to improve it’s consistency. The trick with saline solution slime is to squirt a few drops of solution onto your hands before picking up the slime.
You can knead the slime in the bowl before you pick it up as well. This slime is stretchy but can be stickier. However, keep in mind that although adding more saline solution reduces the stickiness, and it will eventually create a stiffer slime.

- Try adding a cup of foam beads to the recipe for a floam slime. Make a batch in green and a batch in red. Use heart shape cookie cutters to make floam hearts.
- Try kneading in an ounce or two of soft clay after your slime is made for a Christmas butter slime. Make a batch in red and green!
- Try adding red foils to a batch of neon green slime (similar to our gold leaf slime).

A Bit Of Slime Science
Slime is a fun and simple way to explore chemistry concepts like mixtures, polymers, cross-linking, states of matter, elasticity, and viscosity.
Here’s how slime science works: The borate ions in slime activators (like sodium borate, borax powder, or boric acid) mix with the PVA (polyvinyl acetate) glue to form a stretchy substance. This process is called cross-linking!
The glue is made of long, repeating strands of molecules that flow past one another, keeping the glue liquid. When you add borate ions, they connect these strands, making the substance thicker and rubbery like slime. It’s like the difference between wet spaghetti and a clump of leftover spaghetti!
How Long Does Slime Last?
Slime lasts quite a while! I get a lot of questions regarding how I store my slime. We use reusable containers made of plastic or glass. Make sure to keep your slime clean, and it will last for several weeks.
If you want to send kids home with slime from a camp, party, or classroom project, I suggest purchasing packages of reusable containers from the dollar store, grocery store, or even Amazon.
