Learning With LEGO

LEGO is one of the most excellent and versatile play materials out there. Since my son connected his first LEGO bricks, he has been in love. Usually, we enjoy tons of cool science experiments together so here we have mixed science and STEM with LEGO building ideas.

The benefits of LEGO are numerous. From hours of free play to more complicated STEM projects, LEGO building has encouraged learning through exploration for decades. Our LEGO activities cover many areas of learning and are great for preschoolers through tweens.

Earth Day LEGO Build

Earth Day is coming up, and it’s a great time to reflect on the importance of Planet Earth and how we can look after it. This Earth Day, have fun building a custom living habitat for your LEGO mini-figs. Then, discuss with the kids ways they can help care for Planet Earth.

  • Recycling Station: Create a small LEGO scene featuring recycling bins, a recycling truck, and people sorting recyclable materials. Add some greenery with LEGO plants and trees to highlight the importance of environmental conservation.
  • Community Garden: Build a miniature garden with raised beds, vegetable patches, and colorful flowers. Include LEGO figures tending to the garden, watering plants, and harvesting produce to emphasize sustainable living and local food production.
  • Solar Power Installation: Construct a scene showcasing solar panels installed on rooftops or in a field. Add LEGO buildings with solar panels and miniature figures discussing renewable energy and its benefits for reducing carbon emissions.
  • Beach Cleanup: Depict a LEGO beach scene with sand, waves, seashells, and LEGO figures cleaning up litter from the shore. Include trash bags, litter pickers, and recycling bins to highlight the importance of keeping beaches clean and protecting marine life.
