Exploring and Creating With a Preschool Painting Activity!

Everyday items like kitchen utensils make great tools for exploring preschool painting! Using what’s around your child’s environment is a wonderful way to show how him how he can create in so many different ways. Preschool painting can be so much fun because his little mind is open to so many new ideas. Curiosity is an amazing characteristic of a preschool child. Here, we have been working on painting activities that stretch the imagination and use what’s around us in new ways. Liam has never been really open to painting in general, but I thought it would be a fun challenge to show him different ways to paint other than a brush! Painting can be lots of fun for everyone. Preschool painting is the most fun of all with so many unique ideas!

Preschool Painting Activity Set-Up

I gathered a few different utensils from the kitchen drawer. If you really take a look around your kitchen, you will find a wealth of new activities just waiting to be discovered. I have never looked at my kitchen drawer like I do now. I got out a basting brush, potato mashers, spatulas and wooden spoons. I didn’t want to overwhelm him with to many, so I chose the best ones to set out. Liam got out almost every single color paint we own. I covered half the table in paper and secured it with painters tape. Hints: Tacking down the paper makes it less stressful! The dollar store is a great place to pick up a few kitchen utensils for painting!

Here’s the kitchen table ready to go! The paint washes off easily and I never mind a little mess!

Preschool Painting Activity Creating Art!

There’s no step by step to give you here other than let him go for it and see what he likes. However, with Liam I do need to encourage trying everything and experimenting. Often I will do it with him to model what he could try! I don’t force but rather show him how much fun I am having painting with the different utensils. He always enjoys when we do it together. Did he love it? I think he enjoyed it enough and it was a great experience to show him all the different ways he can paint!
