String painting is a fun sensory experience. It is a good way for kids to experience the feeling and texture of paint on their hands. A new sensation is always good!

Learn about color mixing. Have the kids guess what new colors they will make when they put down two different colored strings next to each other.
Develop fine motor skills including the pincer grasp. Neat pincer grasp is used to pick up very small items such as beads, a thread from a surface, or a needle. Picking up and manipulating the strings is great practice for little fingers!

STRING PAINTING
SUPPLIES:
- Paper
- Washable Paint
- Cups or bowls
- String
INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1: Place a sheet of blank paper on table.
STEP 2: Place several colors of paint in separate cups/bowls.
STEP 3: Dip a piece of string in the first color and wipe off excess paint with fingers or a paper towel.
STEP 4: Lay the string down on the paper, curling it or even crossing over itself. Bring the string down to the bottom of the paper so that it hangs off the page.
STEP 5: Repeat with several strings and several colors of paint.
STEP 6: Place a second sheet of paper on top of the strings and then place something heavy on top of the pages.
STEP 7: Pull the strings out from between the two sheets of paper.
STEP 8: Lift the top page and see your masterpiece!
