I don’t want to alarm you, but you might find eyes in your slime. Yes, I am talking about they eyes of Peeps! We tried something different around here last week and made a Peeps Halloween slime recipe that is actually taste safe so no chemicals needed! Nothing says Halloween quite like Peeps candy or like awesome homemade slime recipes ,so we combined the two! Totally adding this to our growing list of Halloween slimes this season.
PEEPS HALLOWEEN SLIME FOR TASTE SAFE SCIENCE WITH KIDS!
AWESOME PEEPS HALLOWEEN SLIME RECIPE
You may have guessed by now that we really LOVE making slime around here, and usually we use one of our basic and classic slime recipes! Slime is a neat chemistry activity that covers polymers, cross linking, and general chemistry and you can read more about slime science here.
Of course, this Peeps Halloween slime recipe isn’t the same as our usual slimes, but you can find tons of classic Halloween slimes here. This Peeps slime is completely taste safe!
Now I am sure it’s not all that yummy, but it’s great if you have young kids who are still tasting everything they touch but still want to make slime!
Making ghostly Peeps or pumpkin Peeps slime is an awesome activity to do with kids of multiple ages since it combines science and sensory play into one cool activity. Everyone will enjoy the experience!
See the recipe below, watch a cool video, and get a little science info too.

A LITTLE BIT OF PEEPS SLIME SCIENCE
So now we know that since this peeps Halloween slime is taste safe that means there isn’t the traditional chemicals involved that form the slime. How can we make this stretchy Halloween candy slime?
So when you heat up a marshmallow or a peep {which is also a marshmallowy candy} you heat up the molecules in the water that is contained within the marshmallow. These molecules move farther apart. This gives us the squishiness that we are looking for to mix up our Rice Krispy squares or our peeps slime.
This is known as a chemical reaction between the heat and the water in the marshmallow. When you add the cornstarch, a natural thickener, you make a thick stretchy substance which is known as the great peeps slime! Your hands playing, kneading, stretching, and generally having fun with the slime dough keeps it going.
What happens after awhile to this peeps activity? As the peeps slime dough slime cools down, it’s going to harden. The molecules in the water move closer together again, and that’s that. This slime is not going to last all day or overnight. Yes, we put it in a plastic bin to see.
Our traditional slime does last for quite awhile, but we are dealing with candy here! We all know that cooking and baking in the kitchen is science anyway.

LET’S MAKE PEEPS HALLOWEEN SLIME TOGETHER!
Stock up on the Halloween themed peeps! We bought a bunch of pumpkin and ghost Peeps packs. Still hoping there’s time left for a campfire to make ghostly s’mores with one of the packs.
We made this slime around Easter time last year and also checked out some cool and quick science experiments with the leftover peeps.
To make the peeps slime, you will need a sleeve of 5 peeps in any color or you can make all the colors like we have here.
PEEPS SLIME SUPPLIES
Adult supervision is necessary for microwave use. Slime will get hot!
Peeps {sleeves of 5 if you are using ghost or 10 for the pumpkins}
Cornstarch
Vegetable Oil
Tablespoon
Microwave Safe Bowl and Spoon
Potholder
The first step to making stretchy peeps candy slime is to plop your peeps into a microwave safe bowl.
Once the peeps are safely in the bowl and not in the mouth, add one tablespoon of regular old vegetable oil to them. This helps with the stickiness and the stretchiness of your slime.
ADULTS: Place the bowl in the microwave for approximately 30 secs. Oven watts very {ours is 1200} so you may need to adjust up or down depending on the results of your first batch. No burning the ghosts!
Remove your puffy peeps bowl carefully from the the microwave. Make sure to take a look at them and make some observations about what happened! The bowl will be hot and the Peeps will be even hotter.
You will want to add your cornstarch to the bowl in small amounts starting with a tablespoon. Mix it in with a spoon and add another.
You are going to want to make sure your slime is cool enough to handle to really get a feel for how much more cornstarch you will need to add. We usually end up adding up to 3 tablespoons.
As soon as you can comfortable pick up the slime {this is why adult supervision is necessary since it gets pretty hot}, you will want to knead your slime until it is smooth and stretchy!
Then all you need to do is add some kids and have fun your super cool Peeps Halloween slime recipe. This type of slime will behave a bit differently than our classic glue slimes, but it’s lots of fun just the same.
I am sure the kids will try a nibble or two, but I don’t recommend eating our Peeps Halloween slime recipe for snack time. We like to keep a couple Peeps handy for a little taste test. That’s science to you know, wink wink!
