I don’t want to alarm you, but you might find eyes in your slime. Yes, I am talking about the eyes of Halloween Peeps candy! We tried something different around here and made a Halloween peeps slime recipe that is actually taste safe, so no chemicals needed. Totally adding this to our growing list of Halloween slime ideas this season!
Halloween Peeps Slime
Stock up on the Halloween themed peeps! We bought a bunch of pumpkin and ghost Peeps packs. Still hoping there’s time left for a campfire to make ghostly s’mores with one of the packs.

Ingredients:
- Peeps {sleeves of 5 if you are using ghost or 10 for the pumpkins}
- Cornstarch
- Vegetable Oil
- Tablespoon
- Microwave Safe Bowl and Spoon
- Potholder
Instructions:
STEP 1. Add your peeps to a microwave safe bowl.
NOTE: Adult supervision is necessary for microwave use. Slime will get hot!
STEP 2. Once the peeps are safely in the bowl and not in the mouth, add one tablespoon of regular old vegetable oil to them. This helps with the stickiness and the stretchiness of your slime.
STEP 3. ADULTS: Place the bowl in the microwave for approximately 30 secs. Oven watts very {ours is 1200} so you may need to adjust up or down depending on the results of your first batch. No burning the ghosts!
STEP 4. Remove your puffy peeps bowl carefully from the the microwave. Make sure to take a look at them and make some observations about what happened! The bowl will be hot and the Peeps will be even hotter.
STEP 5. You will want to add your cornstarch to the bowl in small amounts starting with a tablespoon. Mix it in with a spoon and add another.
You are going to want to make sure your slime is cool enough to handle to really get a feel for how much more cornstarch you will need to add. We usually end up adding up to 3 tablespoons.
As soon as you can comfortable pick up the slime {this is why adult supervision is necessary since it gets pretty hot}, you will want to knead your slime until it is smooth and stretchy!
I am sure the kids will try a nibble or two, but I don’t recommend eating our Halloween peeps slime for snack time. We like to keep a couple Peeps handy for a little taste test. That’s science too you know, wink wink!

The Science of Peeps Slime
So now we know that since this peeps candy slime is taste-safe that means there isn’t the traditional slime activator involved to form the slime. So how can we make this stretchy Halloween candy slime?
Peeps are primarily made of sugar, gelatin, and air, along with various additives for flavor and color. When heated, the sugar and gelatin molecules in Peeps begin to break down and melt.
The heating process causes the gelatin to dissolve, resulting in a sticky and viscous liquid. This liquid forms the base of the slime and provides its stretchy and gooey texture.
Peeps are made primarily of sugar, which is a carbohydrate. When heated, sugar molecules break down and undergo a process called caramelization. This process involves the sugar molecules reacting with heat to form new compounds, including caramel. Caramelization contributes to the gooey texture of the resulting slime.
The oil you add helps prevent the slime from sticking to surfaces and hands. Oil molecules do not interact strongly with the sugar and gelatin molecules in Peeps, allowing the slime to maintain its stretchiness and pliability without becoming overly sticky.
When cornstarch is added to the mixture of melted Peeps and oil, it absorbs excess moisture and increases the viscosity of the slime. Viscosity refers to the resistance of a fluid to flow, and it is influenced by factors such as temperature and the concentration of dissolved substances.
The starch molecules in cornstarch form a network that traps water molecules, creating a semi-solid gel-like structure. This structure gives the slime its characteristic “stretch and snap” behavior and allows it to hold its shape.
