CRAFTS WITH YARN

What is yarn? Yarn is a long continuous length of fiber, interlocked, that is used to make fabrics, sew with, crochet, knit, weave, embroidery, and even ropemaking. The idea of twisting fibers of animal fur, hair or other fibers into yarn is an ancient craft.

Yarn fibers have been made from cotton, wool, and polyester. The most commonly spun animal fiber is wool which we get from sheep. Sometimes yarn is also made from fibers of alpaca, angora, mohair, llama, cashmere, and silk.

Spinning and knitting are one of humans’ greatest achievements. It’s more than art, it has meant that we had fabric for use in clothing. Warm clothing has allowed people to live anywhere on earth.
