LEGO bricks are perfect for STEM activities of all kinds. We love to make simple projects with basic bricks and our LEGO heart is perfect! Combine a fun STEM project and Valentine’s Day activity that uses what you already have! Perfect for my son who is a huge LEGO fan.
BUILD A LEGO HEART FOR VALENTINE’S DAY STEM
Engineering with LEGO for Valentine’s Day {or any day}!
Our LEGO hearts are perfect for a quick engineering project or themed Valentine’s Day play! If you haven’t realized it already, Legos are awesome for learning. Our LEGO hearts make a great STEM activity.
You can also make these LEGO Valentine’s Day ideas.
We explored math patterns, counting, puzzles, and engineering with a simple shape we could create over and over again. We have a whole year of awesome LEGO activities to check out too
LEGO Heart Engineering Set Up
This Lego heart engineering project is awesome STEM. Science, technology, engineering, and math are so important for children to explore even at an early age! STEM can be quick and playful like these simple LEGO hearts. What is STEM?. Make sure to read and find out.

How do we build a LEGO heart?
That’s the question I presented to my son one afternoon when I took out a box of LEGO. We have talked about how hearts are symmetrical, so we started building!
LEGO Hearts Engineering Project
I showed him how we let one space hang over as we added levels to the heart until we got to the last level. The first one was a bit tricky but we managed. I bet this lego heart project would be great for an older sibling to do with a younger sibling!
He wanted to make as many hearts as we could. First, we started with single color hearts. Great for sorting and color skills too! Then we moved on to multi-color hearts.
As we widdled down our supply of LEGO bricks, it was a great opportunity to show him how two smaller pieces can create one larger brick piece, etc! We got down to having to use the single lego pieces. Great fine motor skills too.

He made a cool discovery! The lego hearts fit together like a puzzle!
Have you ever set up a tessellation activity?
We used LEGO to make a tessellation puzzle for math and engineering.
Then he realized how cool the lego hearts were to stack on top of each other, also like a puzzle!
He stacked and re-stacked the LEGO hearts and we made a few more!
Finally, he stacked all the Lego hearts together for one massive Lego hearts engineering project!
As the afternoon continued, he brought out mini-figures and more LEGO bricks and made a scene around the base of the LEGO hearts. He’s on his way to becoming a master builder! Grab a box of loose LEGO and get started!
