Ah the classic slime recipes that we hold near and dear and our kids love to pieces. There’s nothing new about slime but all of a sudden it has become wildly popular and that’s cool! It’s great kid science and great sensory play that adults totally and maybe secretly enjoy too.

I consider the slime recipes below to be classics with tried and true supplies that make awesome slime. These are the recipes that we have been using for years.

NEW STYLE WAYS TO MAKE SLIME RECIPES

Once upon a time, slime was made with liquid starch or borax. But then things changed and saline solution, contact solution, eye drop solution, and shaving cream came into the picture. Most of the above mentioned solutions will contain some sort of boron, so they are NOT BORAX FREE.

If you are reading posts that boast “safe slimes” look twice. Most of these {and I have checked} are still using ingredients that contain some sort of boron like sodium borate and/or boric acid to actually form the slime. In fact it’s really hard to form good slime without these ingredients.

However, read up with Steve Spangler {educated rant coming} on why borax is ok {unless you have an allergy to it}. Click on the blue links below to try out these new but still cool slime recipes.

TASTE SAFE WAYS TO MAKE SLIME RECIPES

Differently textured than our usual slime, these slimes are either taste safe or edible! They are borax free, non-toxic, and  safe slime recipes if ingested. Supervision is still a good thing though!

NOTE: These taste safe and even edible slime recipes usually mean that the recipe should not be eaten as a snack but is safe if a little bit is ingested. Please watch kids closely if you think they will be eating tons of these slime. Even edible slimes aren’t going to be healthy for the tummy if eaten for the sake of eating it.
