FIZZY PUMPKIN ART FOR PRESCHOOL
MAKE ART WITH BAKING SODA AND VINEGAR
Here baking soda and vinegar science meets art for one of our favorite STEAM activities.
Fizzy pumpkins are a fun example of a chemical reaction and changes in states of matter! You have a solid (baking soda) and a liquid (vinegar) reacting together to form a completely new substance.

When the vinegar (an acid) and baking soda (a base) combine together, they form a gas called carbon dioxide which is all the fizzing bubbling action you see! All three states of matter are present: liquid (vinegar), solid (baking soda), and gas (carbon dioxide).

Free Pumpkin Template Printable!
FIZZY PUMPKIN ART
Use the free pumpkin templates for black glue pumpkins, yarn pumpkins, and more pumpkin art.
SUPPLIES:
- Pumpkin Template
- Baking soda
- Water
- Vinegar
- Scissors
- Food coloring
- Dropper
- Paintbrush
INSTRUCTIONS:
STEP 1: Print out the pumpkin template.
STEP 2: Cut out the pumpkin and place it on a surface like newsprint or a larger piece of paper.
STEP 3: Add water to 3 tablespoons of baking soda to make a paste. Paint the pumpkin with the paste.
STEP 4: Mix yellow and red food coloring together to make orange.
STEP 5: Add vinegar to the food coloring.
STEP 6: Add the color to your pumpkin using the dropper until you have the color and design you like. Add green for the stem.
STEP 7: When dry, wipe off the excess baking soda.
