Fizzy Pumpkin Art
Use the free pumpkin templates for black glue pumpkins, yarn pumpkins, and more pumpkin art.
Supplies:
- Pumpkin Template (see below)
- Baking soda
- Water
- Vinegar
- Scissors
- Food coloring
- Dropper
- Paintbrush
Instructions:
STEP 1: Print out the pumpkin template.
STEP 2: Cut out the pumpkin and place it on a surface like newsprint or a larger piece of paper.
STEP 3: Add water to 3 tablespoons of baking soda to make a paste. Paint the pumpkin with the paste.
STEP 4: Mix yellow and red food coloring together to make orange.
STEP 5: Add vinegar to the food coloring.
STEP 6: Add the color to your pumpkin using the dropper until you have the color and design you like. Add green for the stem.
STEP 7: When dry, wipe off the excess baking soda.

Fizzy pumpkins are a fun example of a chemical reaction! A solid (baking soda) and a liquid (vinegar) react together to form a completely new substance.
When the vinegar (an acid) and baking soda (a base) combine, they form a gas called carbon dioxide, which is all the fizzing bubbling action you see! All three states of matter are present: liquid (vinegar), solid (baking soda), and gas (carbon dioxide).
