These fizzy hearts are a fun way to dig into chemistry and art all
at the same time! Make your own baking soda paint and enjoy a fizzing reaction with this science Valentine idea. This Valentine’s baking soda vinegar experiment is perfect for exploring states of matter and chemical reactions with common kitchen ingredients! Download our free printable heart project below and let’s get started!
HOW TO MAKE FIZZY HEARTS
BAKING SODA AND VINEGAR REACTION
This fizzy heart activity is a fun example of a chemical reaction and the states of matter! That is a solid (baking soda) and a liquid (vinegar) reacting together to form a completely new substance.
When the vinegar (an acid) and baking soda (a base) combine together,
they form a gas called carbon dioxide which is all the fizzing bubbling
action you see! All three states of matter are present: liquid (vinegar), solid
(baking soda), and gas (carbon dioxide).
