Frida Kahlo Leaf Art Project

Combine the color and beauty of nature with a Frida Kahlo portrait to create fun garden art inspired by the famous artist’s own work! Frida Kahlo art for kids is also a great way to explore mixed media art with kiddos of all ages. All you need are colored markers, a sheet of art paper, and a few leaves you have collected yourself!

NATURE ART WITH FRIDA KAHLO

Famous artist, Frida Kahlo, was a Mexican painter well known for her portraits, and self-portraits.  Her work was inspired by traditional Mexican art, which is wonderfully colorful, patterned and symbolic.  Also by the nature of Mexico, with feathers, flowers, dancing music and texture. It is said that her artwork was a combination of realism and fantasy.

FRIDA’S GARDEN ART

Mexican artist Frida Kahlo loved to paint herself surrounded by nature. She loved flowers, leaves, and all things colorful!

SUPPLIES:

  • Frida Template
  • Leaves and flowers
  • Mod Podge
  • Markers
  • Canvas or art paper

What else can you use besides real leaves and flowers?

Make this project work for you:

  • Head to the dollar store for assorted fake leaves and flowers including fall-themed colors!
  • Cut your own flowers and leaves out of construction paper or tissue paper.
  • Draw a colorful background of leaves.

HOW TO MAKE FRIDA KAHLO ART

STEP 1. Download and print the Frida Kahlo face template.

STEP 2. Draw in the rest of Frida’s facial features and then add color with markers.

STEP 3.  Cut out her outline.

STEP 4. Glue leaves to the canvas or art paper.

STEP 5.  Then glue Frida’s outline on top of the leaves.

STEP 6. Add flowers to Frida’s hair for a colorful touch of nature!
