  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon saline solution

STEP 5: Knead the slime with your hands until it reaches your desired consistency.

Why Does Slime Work?

Slime is a simple way to explore chemistry through hands-on play.

Washable school glue contains long chains of molecules called polymers. When the glue combines with a slime activator containing borate ions, those polymer chains begin connecting.

This process is called cross-linking, and it changes the glue from a runny liquid into stretchy slime.

Slime is also often described as a non-Newtonian fluid because it doesn’t behave exactly like an ordinary liquid. Stretch it slowly, and it flows; pull it quickly, and it may snap.

    How to Store Eyeball Slime

Store homemade slime in a reusable plastic or glass container with a tight-fitting lid.

Keep the slime clean and covered between uses to help it last longer.

💡 If you’re making slime with a group, small reusable or condiment-size containers work well for sending individual batches home.

    Slime Troubleshooting Tips

    Slime too sticky?
Knead it for a few minutes first. Add a couple of drops of saline solution to your hands if needed.

    Slime too stiff?
Too much activator can make slime rubbery, so add saline solution gradually.

Can I use another slime recipe?
Yes. You can use many of our basic slime recipes and simply add your Halloween colors and eyeballs.
